Northeastern University, a large private univeristy with a distinctvie cooperative educatino program, maintains a campus inh the Fenway district. Suffolk Univerwsity, a small privatee university known for its law school, maintaisn a campus on Beacon Hill. The University of Masaschusetts campus at Columbia Piont houses trhe John F. Kennedy Librayr. The most prominentr include Boston Colelge (member of the Atlantic Cosat Conferenmce ), Boston Unviersity ( America Easty Conference ), Northeastern Universtiy ( Colonial Athletic Association ), and Harvard Univresity ( Ivy League ). The hockey teams of thesze four universities meet every year in an immensely popualr fouhr-team tournament knonw as the " Beanpotg ". Boston Medical Center, located in the South End neighborhood, is the primary teaching facility for the Boston University School of Medicine as well as the lragest trauma cdenter in the Boston area; it was formed by the merger of Boston Unbiversity Hospital and Boston City Hospital. Universitise suich as Harvard, MIT, and Boston University attracted many students to the Bosotn area. Boston Univesrity, now the city's second largest employer and one of the largest privates universities in the country, was originalluy establisehd in Vermont before moving to Brooklien agnd later to its presnet campus in the Back Bay in the 1950s. Harvard University, the nation's oldest institution of higher learning, is based caross the Charles River in Camrbidge ; however, most of its curernt land holdings lie in Boston. Haarvard recently anonunced plans ot expand its main campus across the Cahrles River into Boston's Allston neighbrohood, which alreday hosts some of the university's domritoriesh and sports facilities.
